Distinguish the two ends of the crossing
CalMac identifies The Pier in Armadale as the Skye terminal for Mallaig. Check the booking map shows the shore where your car stands. A route search can otherwise put the pin at the mainland destination.
If you notice the problem before leaving a cottage or hotel, use that current address rather than the terminal you hope to reach. Give the intended check-in deadline as a separate note. Do not drive on a flat tyre simply to match a ferry-terminal booking location or to bring the car closer to the pier.
Explain parking, check-in and access independently
Tell the team whether the vehicle is in a parking bay, a check-in queue or another part of the harbour. Add a clear pin and any bay or lane description. If already inside the terminal arrangements, inform staff that the car has a tyre problem and ask what access is possible for an outside fitter.
The harbour lists parking facilities, but a parking space is not automatically an approved fitting area. Permission and suitable working room must be checked for the particular car. Tell dispatch about staff instructions, barriers or a wheel facing moving traffic before a visit is agreed.
Turn the deadline into usable booking information
Check the current Armadale route information and your own booking for vehicle check-in requirements. Give that deadline, the vehicle registration and a contact who will remain reachable. Include a photograph of the full tyre specification and say whether the locking wheel nut key is available.
For a hired vehicle, obtain rental-company approval before agreeing work. Tell the team if you have used the supplied puncture kit. Sealant or a temporary repair does not establish readiness for onward travel.
Confirm the tyre visit before changing travel plans
Discuss inspection, replacement availability, the complete proposed price and the actual attendance estimate together. If the sailing becomes impractical, contact CalMac about the ticket and tell the tyre team about changed plans. An appointment does not include a ferry booking change or a promise that the vehicle will reach check-in.

- Check the car pin is Armadale, not Mallaig.
- Use the car’s current location, including accommodation.
- Ask staff about terminal access and work permission.
- Share the check-in deadline, tyre marking and key details.

Your questions, answered.
Should I book at the pier if my flat tyre is still at a Sleat cottage?
Book the vehicle’s actual location. Include Armadale check-in as an onward deadline, but do not send the fitter to a terminal where the car is not present.
Does Armadale terminal parking mean tyre fitting is permitted?
Ask staff about maintenance permission and share their instructions with dispatch. The fitter must also assess the space around the affected wheel.
