Explain the dog's position in the vehicle
Say whether the dog travels in a boot crate, behind a guard or in a harness. Mention if its carrier blocks the spare wheel, toolkit or locking key. Describe that access issue instead of opening several doors or unloading equipment in a traffic-exposed position.
If the dog is anxious around strangers, say so before arrival. The useful information is what the fitter needs to know to approach the car and work without unexpected contact. You remain responsible for handling the dog throughout the visit.
Keep the working area separate from the dog
The Highway Code advises suitable restraint for animals travelling in vehicles and keeping dogs controlled beside roads. Apply that practical separation when arranging the visit: decide who holds the lead and where the dog can remain without reaching equipment or the affected wheel.
At a holiday property, ask the host which areas you may use while work is under way. Agree a waiting arrangement before the fitter starts setting up.
Describe a roadside situation precisely
If the car is on the road rather than a driveway, explain the traffic exposure, available space and any difficulty controlling the dog. A routine tyre enquiry must not obscure an immediate safety problem. Follow the relevant assistance advice for the actual stopping position.
Do not move a flat tyre to reach a favourite dog-walking place or assume the fitter can transport you and the dog. Vehicle work, passenger transport and pet transport are separate matters requiring appropriate arrangements.
Prepare the same tyre details as any other visit
Provide the registration, affected wheel, full tyre marking and locking key availability. Add the precise vehicle pin and any property access instructions. The specification and working space need assessment.
Confirm the work, total quotation and actual appointment information. Tell the team who will meet the fitter. Before any onward journey, restore the dog's normal suitable travel restraint.
Before you book
- Mention the dog before the visit.
- Describe crate and equipment access.
- Keep an owner responsible for the lead.
- Agree a place away from the working wheel.
- Provide the usual tyre and location details.
Your tyres, taken care of.
Tell us where you’ve safely stopped and what your vehicle needs. We’ll check availability and confirm your quote and arrival estimate.
Your questions, answered.
Can the fitter hold the dog during the repair?
Arrange a responsible handler yourself. The fitter needs to concentrate on the accepted vehicle work, and pet handling should not be assumed as part of the appointment.
Does travelling with a dog prevent a mobile tyre visit?
Explain the circumstances so the team can assess access and working arrangements. The presence of a dog does not establish a blanket acceptance or refusal; the vehicle and location still need assessment.
