Tyre help at Neist Point parking or on the approach road

At Neist Point, the lighthouse and the place where you leave the car are different locations. That matters when a tyre problem interrupts the return journey. A request should identify the accessible vehicle at the parking area or on the approach road, with enough detail to assess the work. A lighthouse map pin alone can send the enquiry to the wrong place.

Keep the lighthouse separate from the car location

The Northern Lighthouse Board places Neist Point near Glendale on western Skye. The local walking guide describes the parking at the end of the single-track approach, with the footpath continuing from there towards the lighthouse. Use the vehicle position as the destination for tyre assistance rather than choosing the lighthouse itself.

If you are using roadside parking before the walking start, say that clearly and place the marker beside the car. Include the registration, colour and your approach direction, together with a fixed sign or entrance where useful. Avoid a pin at a cliff viewpoint simply because that is where a photograph or phone location was recorded.

Describe the approach and the space around the wheel

A service van reaching the end of a road does not automatically make the parked position suitable for fitting. Explain whether the tyre faces the road, what surface the car stands on and whether the working space is shared with passing vehicles. Mention any obstruction immediately so it is considered alongside the tyre problem.

Read the parking notices and seek permission from the operator or land manager for the proposed work. Do not treat an unmarked verge or a passing place as an extra fitting bay. The Highway Code says not to park in passing places. If the car cannot be worked on at its current location, explain that; a tyre booking does not include towing or recovery.

Make the tyre enquiry complete before changing the itinerary

Send the affected wheel position, the tyre size and any visible problem you can describe safely. A photo of the full marking is preferable to a guess based on the vehicle model. Locate the locking wheel nut key, and state whether the car is hired or belongs to another person who must approve the work.

If you are travelling in a campervan, add the vehicle weight, dimensions and wheel layout. A parking space or a completed drive to Neist Point does not establish suitability for mobile tyre work. Each vehicle and work site needs assessment, and any replacement product must be checked before a fitting arrangement is confirmed.

Agree how the fitter will find an authorised contact

If your visit was planned around sunset or photography, explain who will be at the car and available to approve the quote. A member of the group still walking back from the lighthouse may not be ready to meet a fitter. Agree the contact and key handover rather than assume the enquiry authorises work on an unattended car.

Tell the team about unreliable reception and any fixed onward commitment, such as accommodation check-in. An arrival estimate needs the actual road route and current availability; a general claim about coverage near Glendale is not a confirmed time for Neist Point. Review the proposed work, full price and visit arrangements before reorganising the rest of the journey.

A LITTLE PREPARATION

Before you book

  • Locate the car rather than the lighthouse.
  • State parking area or roadside approach.
  • Describe traffic exposure and the working surface.
  • Check operator or land-manager permission.
  • Agree the contact and locking key handover.
YOUR NEXT STEP

Your tyres, taken care of.

Tell us where you’ve safely stopped and what your vehicle needs. We’ll check availability and confirm your quote and arrival estimate.

GOOD TO KNOW

Your questions, answered.

Can the fitter come down the path to Neist Point Lighthouse?

The tyre enquiry is for a vehicle at a road-accessible parking or stopping place. It does not arrange work on the footpath or at the lighthouse. Share the parked car's pin and agree someone to meet the fitter there.

Does this booking move my car off the Neist Point approach road?

A mobile tyre booking is not a towing or recovery arrangement. Tell the team if the vehicle position is unsuitable or obstructs traffic so the requirements can be understood before any tyre visit is accepted.

Can I use my accommodation address for a car stuck near Neist Point?

Use the car's current position. The overnight address can be included as an onward plan, but it does not identify where assistance is required or provide a route to the stopped vehicle.
