Tyre help on a single-track road on Skye

On a narrow road, the place where a tyre fails may not be a place where a fitter can work. Make the position and traffic conditions clear as soon as you contact us. Dispatch needs to assess the stopping place alongside the tyre and vehicle details.

Explain the space around the vehicle

Tell the team whether the car is on the carriageway, in an off-road parking area or at a property. Describe bends, visibility and how passing traffic is affected. A location pin is important, but it does not show every detail of the space beside a wheel.

Say which wheel is affected and whether that side faces moving traffic. Do not assume the fitter can set up equipment simply because another vehicle can reach the location.

Keep passing places available

The Highway Code says not to park in passing places. They let vehicles pass on single-track roads and are not ordinary parking bays. A planned fitting should be arranged at a suitable permitted location rather than choosing a passing place as the appointment address.

If a breakdown has left the vehicle obstructing the road, explain that when seeking assistance. This guide is not an instruction to move a vehicle with a flat or damaged tyre; the team needs the actual circumstances to discuss the practical next step.

Share enough information for an access decision

A precise pin, the approach direction and a recognisable junction or landmark can help identify the location. Add any narrow gate, steep track or turning restriction. If you can describe the site without entering traffic or putting yourself at risk, include those details when calling.

Separate attendance from permission to work

Even after a fitter reaches the area, the work site may prove unsuitable. Mobile tyre fitting is not a promise of vehicle recovery or traffic management. Discuss those needs explicitly; if there is immediate danger, contact the emergency services rather than relying on an appointment request.

A LITTLE PREPARATION

Before you book

  • State whether the vehicle obstructs the road.
  • Share a pin and your approach direction.
  • Describe visibility and the affected wheel.
  • Explain any immediate danger when calling.
YOUR NEXT STEP

Your tyres, taken care of.

Tell us where you’ve safely stopped and what your vehicle needs. We’ll check availability and confirm your quote and arrival estimate.

GOOD TO KNOW

Your questions, answered.

Can I choose a passing place for a booked tyre change?

Do not plan to park there for a fitting. Passing places need to remain available to traffic. Ask about a suitable permitted work location instead.

Does a tyre visit include recovery from a narrow road?

Recovery is not automatically included. Tell dispatch if the vehicle needs moving or the site is exposed to traffic so the requirements can be assessed.
