A puncture in a hire car on Skye: arranging the next step

A flat tyre in a rental car creates an extra question: who can authorise the work? Start with the hire company’s assistance process and tell us that the vehicle is rented. That helps avoid ordering a tyre or arranging a visit before the right person has approved it.

Contact the hire company first

Use the contact information in your rental agreement or booking confirmation. Explain the tyre problem and ask whether they have an assistance provider or an approval process. Coverage and permitted repairs depend on your own agreement, so a general web page cannot decide who pays.

If a mobile fitting is permitted, ask what evidence they require. An approval reference, the name of the person authorising work and any spending limit can make the conversation with the fitter clearer.

Send useful vehicle information

Provide the registration, rental-company name and the size shown on the affected tyre. Include a clear sidewall photo if you are unsure. The car model alone may not identify the wheel specification, and different sizes can be fitted to the front and rear.

Mention any locking wheel nut key or equipment supplied with the car. If you cannot find the key, say so before a fitter travels; it can change what work is possible.

Keep the quote and authorisation clear

Ask for the full proposed price with the callout, tyre and additional work separated. Share the quote with the hire company if their process requires it. We cannot promise that a rental firm or insurer will reimburse a visit or accept a particular replacement.

Explain deadlines without treating them as guarantees

A ferry, flight or vehicle-return time is useful information for arranging the visit. Tell the hire company and our team early. Tyre availability, the actual location and the working space still need checking, so avoid building your onward journey around an unconfirmed arrival time.

A LITTLE PREPARATION

Before you book

  • Read the hire company’s assistance instructions.
  • Obtain approval for the proposed work.
  • Share tyre photos, location and key availability.
  • Keep the agreed quote and booking reference.
YOUR NEXT STEP

Your tyres, taken care of.

Tell us where you’ve safely stopped and what your vehicle needs. We’ll check availability and confirm your quote and arrival estimate.

GOOD TO KNOW

Your questions, answered.

Will my rental insurance pay for a puncture?

That depends on your agreement and cover. Ask the rental company or insurer directly; the fitting team cannot confirm a reimbursement entitlement.

Can I book before the rental company answers?

You can enquire about availability, but explain that authorisation is pending. Do not approve an order or work unless you are entitled to do so.
