A flat tyre after a walk from Sligachan

After a walk from Sligachan, a flat tyre can leave the group’s phones, keys and vehicle in different places. Start with the car’s location and the person who can meet the fitter. A walking-route marker or photograph of the old bridge does not provide a complete tyre fitting address.

Distinguish the old bridge from the parked car

Historic Environment Scotland’s Canmore record places the old bridge by the River Sligachan, east of the Sligachan Hotel. It is a useful landmark, but the bridge marker does not identify a parking bay or service-vehicle entrance. Say which side of the landmark the car is on and where you entered the parking area.

Be clear whether you used hotel parking, another visitor parking space or accommodation nearby. Those places may have different operators and permissions. Include the registration and colour with the vehicle pin, rather than using “near the Cuillin” or a distant walking destination as the location for attendance.

Bring the contact details back to the vehicle

A phone carried up the glen may share the walker’s position instead of the car’s. Check the map before submitting and explain when the keyholder can return. Do not book an immediate visit to a locked vehicle if the only person able to authorise work is still away on the route.

If the group has split up, choose one contact to coordinate the request and tell dispatch who will meet the fitter. Say if reception is unreliable, then establish that the enquiry has been received. A message waiting to send is not confirmation that someone has accepted the job or started travelling.

Describe the bay and ask the right parking operator

Read site notices and ask the operator or land manager about proposed tyre work and service access. Explain the surface, slope, room around the wheel and whether other vehicles must pass close by. Being able to leave a car for a walk does not prove the same space is suitable for fitting equipment.

If the vehicle is on the road rather than in a parking area, state that immediately and describe traffic exposure. Do not drive on a flat tyre to move closer to a landmark. This enquiry concerns tyre inspection or fitting at an accepted location; it does not arrange a trail response, towing or recovery.

Prepare the wheel information before the next walk

Photograph the full tyre marking, identify the wheel and find the locking wheel nut key. Mention any hire-company instructions and onward accommodation deadline. Review the complete quote, product availability and actual arrival estimate before leaving again; the team needs an agreed arrangement for vehicle access and approval.

A LITTLE PREPARATION

Before you book

  • Pin the car rather than the walker’s phone.
  • Name the parking area and approach.
  • Check permission and the surface around the wheel.
  • Agree a keyholder who can meet the fitter.
YOUR NEXT STEP

Your tyres, taken care of.

Tell us where you’ve safely stopped and what your vehicle needs. We’ll check availability and confirm your quote and arrival estimate.

GOOD TO KNOW

Your questions, answered.

Can I use the Sligachan old bridge as the fitting address?

Use it as a landmark, then identify the actual parking area and vehicle pin. A bridge location does not establish the car’s position, parking operator or permitted service access.

Can the fitter arrive while everyone is still hiking?

The team needs a separately agreed arrangement for keys, access and authorisation. Explain the keyholder’s realistic return time before confirming a visit; a map pin does not authorise work on an unattended car.
